Organization's description

State of Fashion is an international fashion platform that connects pioneers in fashion design, research and business, and shares their ideas and innovations with the world. We stand for critical reflection on common positions and models in the fashion industry. With a biennial, discussion programs, labs for design research, exhibitions and publications, we bring visionary ideas from the Netherlands and abroad together. Together with designers, companies, scientists, educators, consumers and other stakeholders in fashion, we actively explore an urgently needed new fashion system.\n\nState of Fashion builds on the Arnhem Fashion Biennale (2005 - 2013) as well as on the profile built up by Arnhem as a hub for renewal, research and innovation in fashion. The platform is part of the Sonsbeek & State of Fashion Foundation, which also organizes the four-yearly Sonsbeek manifestation in Arnhem. The Foundation is structurally supported by the Municipality of Arnhem and the Province of Gelderland. From 2021 on, State of Fashion will be supported through the four-year funding system of the Ministry of Culture, Education and Science.

Aimy Eyzenbach

Communication Lead

Aimy Eyzenbach, Communication Lead at State of Fashion. Aimy graduated with a master's degree in Design Cultures from VU University Amsterdam in 2012. After graduating, she started working as a Marketing and Communications Assistant for the Fashion Biennale Arnhem in 2013 with the theme 'Fetishism in Fashion'. After the Fashion Biennale Arnhem, she has worked as PR/Communications assistant for Organisation in Design and Het Nieuwe Instituut, among others. In 2018 she joined the State of Fashion team, first as production and communications assistant and since the Biennale in 2022 as Lead Communication.

Iris Ruisch

Director

Iris Ruisch / Director at State of Fashion and Co Founder M-ODE Foundation. Iris graduated in 1998 at ArtEZ as fashiondesigner. After her graduation she worked for several fashion houses and brands, and after a long period working as Head of Design she started in 2007 as Senior Consultant Design, Management & Talentscout at HTNK. In 2015 she became Creative Director of the Amsterdam Fashion Week, elevating the annual MBFWA events into a much more balanced program of both sponsored fashion-labels and emerging young designers, that gained respect from both professionals and press. Upscaling the possibilities for Talent development and their internationalizing meant stepping into a new adventure and co founded M-ODE in 2017, for which she started working in 2018 as managing director. In 2021 she joined the State of Fashion team as well on partnerships and since Januari '22 as Head of program for the Biennale 2022. Amongst this, Iris is jury-chair Cat. Fashion at the Dutch Design Awards since '20 and also works for as advisor for The Creative Industries Fund, Cat. Internationalization. Since June 2023 Iris is Director of State of Fashion
